Your First Visit

Your first visit may be scheduled with a hygienist or one of the doctors, depending on the reason for your visit. A typical new patient exam begins with a review of medical history. All patient forms can be downloaded from the Forms & Finance section of our website. It is very important to provide complete and current information on the health questionnaire. This will allow the doctors to select the safest and most effective treatment options for you.

The hygienist will then take any X-rays that are due. If you have any current X-rays from a previous dental office, we are happy to assist you in obtaining them so that we only have to take those for which you are currently due.

The doctor will step in and spend a few minutes for introductions and answer any initial questions you may have. He will review with you your health history, X-rays and other records taken by the hygienist and do a comprehensive exam of your head, neck and mouth. The purpose of this exam is to screen for cancers, evaluate the health of your gums and teeth, and check for cavities, orthodontic concerns and cosmetic evaluation. If any problem is discovered that requires treatment, the doctor will take time to explain the options, and the positive/negative of each option. That way you can be educated and involved in the decision making about your oral health.

Depending on how much time it takes to complete the aforementioned, you may get a cleaning at the first appointment or it may need to be scheduled for another time.

Regular Checkups

It is important to maintain a routine checkup appointment. The interval between checkups is determined by the dentist and hygienist (usually 4-6 months). For your convenience, you may pre-schedule you checkup in advance and receive a reminder when the time draws closer. This is especially helpful if you prefer specific days or times.
